The Mets reached the quarter mark of the season with a much-needed win over the Nationals on Sunday, and with Max Scherzer bouncing back with a strong outing, he says the team is in a good place with plenty of time left in the season.

“We're a good team,” Scherzer said. “There’s plenty of good teams in the league and plenty of baseball left so it'll be a fight all the way to the finish. I’m sure there are things we can say we wish we did better at, and there’s other things we have done well. It’s just continue to get in the season and get in the groove, find our rhythm, and continue to play well and win series.”

The Mets haven’t exactly “continued” to win series, as they haven’t won one in a month, but they could change that on Monday afternoon against Washington, which could help send the team on a run it is convinced it can make, despite the longstanding offensive struggles and the several pitching injuries.

“This group can win and we know it,” Scherzer said. “I think we’re all getting our footing and we’re getting it going.”
