Max Scherzer struggles in 37-pitch first inning of Rangers debut

Max Scherzer's first inning with the Rangers certainly could have gone better.

Taking on the lowly White Sox, who just sold a plethora of assets at the deadline, Scherzer couldn't find the plate in an erratic 37-pitch inning that saw Chicago plate three runs on three hits and two walks.

Scherzer wasn't helped by soft contact singles from the White Sox lineup, but didn't help himself by walking in a run in what was his first-ever appearance at Globe Life Field in Texas (the only remaining active stadium that he hadn't pitched in during his career).

Scherzer entered his Rangers debut carrying a 4.01 ERA in 19 starts with the Mets. He was able to rebound after that rocky first inning and not allow another run in five more innings of work, finishing the day with three runs over six frames, striking out nine and not allowing another walk after the first.
