Max Scherzer was pulled from his game three start in the World Series due to back spasms, and Gio was far from surprised.
Gio has consistently bet against Scherzer this postseason, and hasn’t hid his view of Scherzer as one of his most hated Mets of all time, so he expressed his relief that Scherzer is not New York’s problem anymore.
“This trade was a huge bust for them,” Gio said. “They ended up winning the game seven [of the ALCS] that he pitched, but they had to pull him because he was on the verge of blowing the game…luckily, they were able to win the game last night with him having to come out in the third inning, but again, they’re using their bullpen way more than they wanted to.
“This is exactly what we thought was going to happen when he was traded.
He’s got another year on his deal, so they’re gonna have to deal with that somehow. Welcome to our hell. It didn’t really work out for us, did it?”
Scherzer has dealt with three different injuries since the Rangers traded for him in July, and he is approaching 40 years old. He is also under contract next year, and Gio expects more of the same from the future Hall of Famer.
“He’s always got an injury,” Gio said. “There is always something going on with this guy. Always.”
