The Mets have a much-needed reinforcement making his return on Tuesday night.
Francisco Lindor, who has been out with a strained oblique since July 16, is coming off the IL ahead of New York’s series with the Giants and is in the starting lineup, according to multiple reports.
Lindor came up lame after taking a swing against the Pirates last month, right when he appeared to be breaking out of his season-long funk. In his last 44 plate appearances before getting hurt, he was batting .353 with a 1.018 OPS and a pair of home runs.
In Lindor’s absence, the Mets have gone 14-22 and have fallen from first to third place in the NL East standings, now 6.5 games back of the Braves.
With Javier Baez making his return to the lineup on Sunday, the two close friends could take the field together for the first time since playing as teammates in the World Baseball Classic. Most importantly, Lindor’s return could give the New York offense a much-needed boost as it looks to salvage the season.
