Boomer and Gio still not worried about losing division, but Mets are wasting chances

Thanks to a Braves loss to the Giants on Monday night, the Mets lead in the NL East still sits at 1.5 games, making a loss to the lowly Cubs slightly more tolerable.

But Boomer and Gio still see these losses to inferior teams as missed opportunities to bury the defending champs in the division.

"There's just too many of these games against bad teams when they could have pulled away from the Braves," Gio said. "The two against the Nationals, the first game Friday against the Marlins…last night. I still expect them to win the series, but I want to see them go on a winning streak and create a little bit of space. This is the time to do it, because the Cubs are terrible!

"When you lose these games when the Braves are running into a tougher part of their schedule, to me that's unacceptable."

That being said, Gio still has confidence in New York locking up its first NL East title since 2015.

"I'm not as afraid," Gio said. "When you watch the Braves, they're all or nothing. You don't feel like that's gonna translate as well to October as much as the Mets and what they've been doing offensively for the majority of the year."
