Buck Showalter's pre and post-game press conferences are must-see TV or must-listen radio on WCBS 880, as he's usually prone to saying something funny or telling a random story that turns out to be a great one.
That's exactly what we got before Sunday's series finale with the Rockies, when we all found out that Buck Showalter is a big fan of "Narcos" by Timmy Trumpet and Blasterjaxx…aka Edwin Diaz's entrance theme.
"Yesterday, we had a one-run lead, ninth inning, 42,000 people there, all of a sudden the gate opens and they're playing the trumpets…I want to hear them play that," Buck smiled. "I enjoy that, they're pretty cool."
Timmy Trumpet will be in the house Tuesday night at Citi Field when the Mets open a series with the Dodgers, so you can probably guess that Diaz will be pitching – as Timmy Trumpet has said he'll play his part live if Diaz enters the game.
Hopefully, it's in the ninth inning and not the eighth, which is where Diaz was deployed Saturday during Old-Timers' Day – much to the chagrin of the fans, who actually booed Adam Ottavino when he came out to pitch the ninth.
"There was a sprinkling of boos when he came out, and Otto has a great line about it – but I won't betray his confidence, because what was said was not for everybody's ears," Showalter said. "That's a hard job, but Otto is a pretty funny guy, he just doesn't let too many people in there."
