The Mets have the best record in the National League, and many believe adding a relief arm would help solidify their spot as a contender.

They are reportedly adding one from within, as MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reports that New York is calling up veteran reliever Tommy Hunter from Triple-A.

Hunter was signed to a minor-league deal back in April after throwing in front of scouts, and has a 2.08 ERA in his last five outings for Triple-A Syracuse. Hunter was with the Mets last season and tossed eight shutout innings in his four appearances before back surgery ended his season. His enthusiasm after recording his first career hit at the plate made him a favorite among fans last year as well.

The 35-year-old will begin his 15th season in the majors when he is activated, holding a career 4.04 ERA in 871.1 innings of work.
