Mets DH Daniel Vogelbach went 0-for-3 in Tuesday night's loss to the Cubs, dropping his batting average to just .153 over his last 27 games.
Meanwhile, Darin Ruf was on the bench on Tuesday, but he hasn't provided much offense at all for New York since coming over at the trade deadline, batting .137 in a Mets uniform.
New York's DH options have officially tired out Boomer and Gio, who want to see a change at the position down the stretch and into October.
"These two guys basically replaced Dom Smith, and J.D. Davis," Boomer said. "They're getting exactly what they were getting before, plus no backup first baseman.
"They've lost their flexibility. It's one thing of those guys are doing what they're supposed to do. Vogelbach hurt his hamstring and hasn't been the same since."
Gio wants Smith back in the lineup over Ruf or Vogelbach, as the two trade deadline platoon additions haven't given the team anything at all since Vogelbach's injury.
"Put [Mark] Vientos in there, bring Dom Smith back up…I know he can hit in the majors sometimes," Gio said. "When you trot those guys out there, you're not giving your team a chance."
