The Mets added some outfield depth on Saturday, acquiring Mark Payton from the Reds for cash considerations.
The 29-year-old Payton will be sent to Triple-A Syracuse. He was designated for assignment by Cincinnati earlier this week.
Payton made his big-league debut last year and has logged 24 plate appearances at the major league level this season. In 32 career MLB games, Payton is slashing .182/.250/.200 with one extra-base hit. He has played both corner outfield spots at the major league level.
To make room for Payton on the 40-man roster, David Peterson was transferred to the 60-day IL with a strained oblique.
