While Max Scherzer gets set for a rehab start in Double-A, his fellow ace takes another big step towards a return.
The Mets say Jacob deGrom faced hitters for the first time since being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right scapula, throwing live batting practice in Port St. Lucie on Tuesday.
DeGrom has yet to pitch this season due to the injury, and much of his 2021 campaign was derailed by numerous injuries as well. But when he was on the mound, he was nothing short of historic, and getting deGrom back would give the division-leading Mets the best pitcher in the game in an obviously massive boost.
Buck Showalter said the session went well for deGrom.
