Boomer 'would not be surprised' if Juan Soto was a Met before trade deadline

Jon Heyman recently reported that the consensus around the league is that Juan Soto will not be traded before the deadline, but Boomer says a deal could absolutely happen, and it could be the Mets.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you told me - Aug. 2 is the trade deadline - Juan Soto was a Met," Boomer said during Tuesday's show. "I would not be surprised."

Why? Because Steve Cohen has proven his willingness to break the bank, and while that might not be as impactful in free agency as the trade market, Cohen could take on contracts in a deal and has some promising prospects in the higher ranks of the minor leagues to sweeten up what would have to be a mega trade package to convince Washington to trade its 23-year-old superstar to a division rival.

And Boomer says Cohen should absolutely make the move and not worry about keeping his top prospects.

"His overall aggressiveness and everything he has done and everything he has tried to build upon, and the reputation he has already built in the short time that he's owned the team," Boomer said.

"This guy is a superstar, man. I don't know what these prospects are doing. Everybody's talking about this prospect or that prospect. This guy is a generational talent."
