The Mets hoped Max Scherzer's rough outing against the Braves last weekend was an anomaly, but the long ball came back to bite him again early in Friday's Wild Card Series opener.
New York's game one starter surrendered an opposite field two-run blast to the struggling Josh Bell in the top of the first, then served up a solo shot to Trent Grisham and his .626 OPS in the second to put the Mets in an early 3-0 hole.
Signed to a record contract this past offseason, Mets fans were expecting Scherzer to help carry the team through October, and they made their disappointment known on Twitter as Scherzer was getting taken deep for the fourth time in his last eight innings of work.
