The Mets have reached the 50-win mark after taking down the Reds on Monday, still hold a 3.5 game lead over the defending champs in the NL East, and are tied for the highest win total in the National League.
Sal Licata says it's time the Mets get more recognition as the best in the league.
"They've had the best team in the National League pretty much all year long," Sal said during Tuesday's Boomer and Gio show. "That's how good the Mets have been, the best team in the National League, and it still doesn't feel like that yet."
Despite missing two of their best pitchers for a bulk of the season, including being without Jacob deGrom for all of it so far, and Sal says once he and Max Scherzer return (Scherzer is set to take the hill Tuesday night), then it will be time to recognize New York as a legit threat to win the pennant.
"This year, they're not relying on deGrom or even Scherzer to be saviors," Sal said. "They need them, at least one of them to come back, but they haven't been saviors.
"Getting Scherzer back, it's gonna be huge…and if they get [deGrom] back, look the bleep out."
