Brett Baty picked up another big-league hit on Friday night for the Mets, a two-out base hit to continue his sparkling start to his major league career that began with a home run on the first swing he took.
His on-field performance has immediately put him in the fans' good graces, but the touted prospect is a hit with his teammates for more than that.
"He's a true pro," Pete Alonso said. "I'm really happy with how he's handled himself.
"He's having a really awesome start to his career on the field, but he seems like a great guy. It's awesome having him in the clubhouse."
Baty now has a hit in all three games of his big-league career so far, with four RBI in those three games. It's early, but Eduardo Escobar and Luis Guillorme's injury resulting in Baty's promotion may have helped the Mets find their steady third baseman for the stretch run.
"Just looking forward for him to keep developing as a young big leaguer and keep getting more at-bats and helping us win," Alonso said. "He's done a hell of a job."
