X-rays on Pete Alonso's wrist came back negative after he was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat of Wednesday night's game against the Braves, but he still appears to be heading towards an IL stint.
According to multiple reports, the Mets slugger is expected to be placed on the IL ahead of Friday's series opener against the Pirates. The team is still awaiting further test results on Alonso's wrist, but at this point, an IL stint appears to be the response.
Alonso was hit by a Charlie Morton fastball on Wednesday, knocking him out of the game. He returned to the Mets dugout later in the game after X-rays showed no fracture, but he was sent for further testing.
Alonso currently holds the league lead in home runs (22) and RBI (49).
