Mets place Francisco Lindor on IL with oblique strain

Francisco Lindor is headed to the IL with an oblique strain.

The shortstop left Friday night’s game after gingerly hitting a ground ball to the right side, which was immediately followed by Lindor grabbing at his right side and barely making it out of the batter’s box. The Mets said Lindor left the game with right side soreness, and Luis Rojas told reporters after Friday’s loss to the Pirates that Lindor was undergoing testing.

Friday was the first time the Mets had their full Opening Day lineup back on the active roster since being hit with a massive injury wave, as J.D. Davis was activated before the game. The group was back together for all of one night.

Lindor, who has struggled badly at the plate for most of the season, had come alive of late, hitting .353 with a 1.018 OPS and two home runs in his last 11 games.

Some oblique strains can be much more severe than others, but the injury typically takes months to recover from. Mets starter David Peterson is on the IL with a strained oblique, with an estimated recovery time of two months.

Travis Blankenhorn was called up to replace Lindor on the active roster.
