J.D. Davis avoided serious injury after X-rays on his hand came back clean, but the third baseman could not avoid an IL stint.
The Mets announced Saturday afternoon that Davis, who was hit by a pitch on the hand earlier this week, had been placed on the 10-day IL with a left hand contusion, retroactive to April 7.
In a corresponding move, infielder Jose Peraza was selected to the major league roster. The 26-year-old signed with the Mets back in November after spending 2020 with the Red Sox, posting a .617 OPS in 120 plate appearances.
Initial X-rays on Davis' hand were negative, and the team conducted another round of X-rays to make sure there was no fracture, and those came back clean as well. In Davis' absence, Jonathan Villar and Luis Guillorme will likely see more playing time.
The team also announced that pitcher Fanklyn Kilome was designated for assignment, opening up a spot on the 40-man roster for Peraza
