Buck Showalter confirmed that Mark Vientos is on his way up to the Mets, and he will be taking Starling Marte's spot on the roster.
The All-Star is heading to the IL with a fractured right middle finger after Marte tried to play through the injury, with the move being retroactive to Wednesday.
Marte suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch from Pittsburgh's Mitch Keller on Sept. 6. He was initially considered day-to-day before going on the IL.
Marte would be available to come off the IL on Sept. 17, when the Mets host the Pirates.
