Remember when the Mets signed former All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp to a minor-league deal in May? Probably not. Well, he's gone now.
The Mets released Kemp Friday after he appeared in just eight games for triple-A Syracuse. He was on the 7-day injured list from lingering effects from a broken left rib suffered in April.
This could be it for the 34-year-old unless he ends up taking a minor-league deal elsewhere. Kemp was hitting .235 with one home run and and three RBIs in triple-A. The Mets had signed him a few weeks after the Reds released him. He was hitting just .200 with a homer and five RBIs in 20 games with the Reds in April after they acquired him in a trade in the offseason.
Kemp was a three-time All-Star with the Dodgers and also played for the Padres, Braves and Reds. He's a career .285 hitter with 281 homers, 1,010 RBIs and a .822 OPS in 14 seasons in the big leagues. Kemp hit .290 with 21 home runs and 85 RBIs in 146 games last season with the Dodgers.
