Sandy Alderson told Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post on Tuesday that he expects his Mets to be active in finding a DH upgrade at the trade deadline, which was refreshing to hear for Boomer Esiason.
“I will say this about Sandy Alderson,” Boomer said during Wednesday’s show. “He gave you exactly what you want to hear. you want to hear a guy of significance recognizing the weakness and not hiding behind it…there’s no messing around. ‘We have the lowest DH production in the league. We got to do something about it.’”
New York’s offense hasn’t quite been the same of late with Starling Marte injured and Jeff McNeil has been on the paternity list, but even when those two return, the Mets need more help, and Boomer believes Alderson and company will get it done.
“They’re gonna get reinforcements,” Boomer said. “But even with Marte and McNeil out of the lineup, that’s not the Mets team…those two guys are big parts of the team, both offensively and defensively.”
