The Mets tied a franchise record on Thursday, albeit maybe not one you'd want to see, especially in July.
When right-hander Akeem Bostick came on to pitch the ninth inning of the Mets' 6-3 loss to Atlanta, he became the 56th player to suit up this season, tying the franchise record that was set in 2018.
Bostick, who was selected when Jared Eickhoff was designated for assignment again on Wednesday, signed with the Mets in May and was 0-4 with a 6.21 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) at Triple-A Syracuse, with a 16.8 percent strikeout rate and 13.3 percent walk rate in 37 2/3 innings. However, he threw a scoreless inning in his MLB debut, issuing one walk.
The Mets will likely set the franchise record on Friday, as Carlos Carrasco is expected to be activated off the 60-day injured list to start the team's series opener against Cincinnati.
