Report: Mets to begin interviewing finalists for manager job on Tuesday

The Mets are reportedly set to begin their second round of interviews of the three finalists for their vacant manager position, starting on Tuesday.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, New York will conduct its three interviews over the next four days, as owner Steve Cohen will be involved in the interview process with Buck Showalter, Joe Espada and Matt Quatraro.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported on Sunday that the Mets could make their decision by the end of this week.

Showalter is seen as the favorite to land the job, though he last managed in 2018 with the Orioles, where he spent nine years and compiled a 669-684 record. He is known for his four years as manager of the Yankees, logging a total record of 313-268, including a playoff berth in 1995 before he was let go and replaced by Joe Torre.

Quatraro has been the Rays bench coach for the past three seasons, and also interviewed for the managing job for the A's. He also spent time as a hitting coach for the Guardians.

Espada has ties to Mets general manager Billy Eppler from their time with the Yankees and spent last season as the Astros bench coach.
