Mets transfer Carlos Carrasco to 60-day IL

It looks like the Mets avoided a serious injury with Jacob deGrom's lat soreness, but Carlos Carrasco's outlook for a return is not as optimistic.

New York moved the veteran righty to the 60-day IL on Thursday, as Carrasco reportedly isn't progressing as quickly as the team initially hoped. After recent updates suggested Carrasco could be ready to make his Mets debut as early as next weekend, he now won't be eligible to come off the IL until at least May 31.

Multiple reports suggest that Carrasco didn't suffer a setback on his torn hamstring, but is just progressing slowly, and won't be able to be back within the 6-8 week timeline that was estimated when he first suffered the injury in spring training.

Carrasco had just pitched in a simulated game on Wednesday and reportedly reached 96 mph on his fastball. That would have potentially been one of his final rehab appearances after throwing four, five and six innings in his last three simulate games, setting him up to return as early as next week. He was supposed to throw in a minor league game on Sunday, but that will no longer happen.

Carrasco can now come off the IL on the same day as Noah Syndergaard.
