It’s now June, but it’s on the way to May again.

Bad pun aside, Mets reliever Trevor May has once again begun throwing, based on his Tweet that literally checks the box:

May had tweeted about two weeks ago that he was feeling good and “approaching imaging to see if we’re good to ramp up” as he rehabs from a stress reaction in his right humerus bone, and then tweeted earlier this week that he was going to “release a rehab blog” because “things be heating up.”

Clearly, everything went well, and he is now throwing just over five weeks after the Mets announced (on May 4) that he would be shut down for four weeks due to the arm injury.

The Mets gave May an initial timeline of 8-12 weeks to return to game action, but depending on how quickly he progresses through his throwing program, May could be back closer to the short end of the timeline, which would be right around the end of June.

May believed all along that could be the case, saying when he was first shut down that he was "very optimistic."

“I know that’s kind of a big range, but there are a couple of milestones they need me to reach that add time on,” May said of his initial timeframe shortly after being shut down. “But, I am very optimistic. I know how I heal.
When I had Tommy John surgery I didn’t have a setback the entire time. I healed up really nicely and I was ahead of schedule the whole time. Wherever I’m at in four weeks, it’s going to be as best as I could have done it."

May, who is in the final year of a two-year, $15.5 million deal with the Mets, made eight appearances before being shut down, posting an 8.64 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over 8 1/3 innings – a performance he admits came in part because he was trying to pitch through arm issues.
