Gio changes expectations: It's now World Series or bust for Mets

Last week, Gio and Sal pondered what the expectations should be for the Mets in terms of the minimum fans should accept this season, and settled on the team reaching the NLCS.

Well, after dominating the second-place Braves and getting a reminder of what a healthy Jacob deGrom looks like Gio is upping the stakes.

After taking down the Reds for a fifth straight win, the Mets are now in World Series or bust territory, according to Gio.

“Each game that they win, I’m now thinking the expectations are changing,” Gio said. “Last week I said I’d probably be happy if they made it to the NLCS…at this point, anything but a championship or a real, legit shot at the World Series might be disappointing because this team is that good.

“You can’t waste seasons like this. They don’t come around often.”

The road to a pennant will still be tough with the even hotter Dodgers lingering, as well as the retooled Padres, but with the Mets holding the second best record in baseball, Gio says an NLCS appearance is no longer the acceptable floor. This team can win it all.

“I think the fanbase is really believing at this point in the season that they can win a World Series,” Gio said.
