Mets applaud Subway Series atmosphere at Citi Field: 'They really brought it'

Citi Field was electric on Tuesday night, bringing in the most anticipated Subway Series matchup in nearly 15 years given the teams' current standings.

The crowd sounded like a fairly even split in the first inning, but the home fans quickly took over after the Mets exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first, giving Citi Field an October atmosphere that hasn't been experienced since the team's run to the World Series in 2015.

The four-run first was capped off by a two-run blast off the bat of Eduardo Escobar.

"It was honestly like a World Series home run," Escobar said. "I've never played in an environment like that. The way that the game was being played, honestly it felt like a World Series environment there."

Escobar's teammates shared a similar sentiment, and hope to relive that environment in just over two months.

"I've never played in a major-league playoff game before," Pete Alonso said. "But if I had to guess, that's what it would be like."

The crowd was buzzing throughout the night, with the home fans going home with plenty to celebrate, and now are smelling blood with Max Scherzer on the mound for the series finale.

If the atmosphere is anything like it was on Tuesday, the Mets are in for a treat.

"They really brought it tonight," Starling Marte said.
