Report: Carlos Carrasco undergoes elbow surgery

Carlos Carrasco's debut season with the Mets was riddled with injury, which reportedly continued through the end of the 2021 campaign.

According to SNY's Andy Martino, the veteran righty underwent surgery on Tuesday to remove bone fragments from his pitching elbow, which will keep him from baseball activities until "later this winter."

Carrasco, part of the trade that brought Francisco Lindor to New York last offseason, was a late start to spring training due to elbow soreness, which the 34-year-old said was status quo for him upon arriving to camp. But he then tore his hamstring during conditioning while working his way back from that elbow soreness, and did not appear in a game for the Mets until July 30.

In total, Carrasco pitched just 53.2 innings in 2021, tallying a 6.04 ERA and a 5.22 FIP with 50 strikeouts. He allowed 10 earned runs in his last nine innings of work before the end of the season.

Carrasco is signed through next season from his contract initially signed with Cleveland, and there is a team option in 2023.
