The Mets added to their bullpen with David Robertson Thursday night, but may have officially lost a key piece of their 2022 unit on Friday.

According to Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, RHP Trevor Williams has agreed to a two-year deal with the division rival Washington Nationals, and The Athletic’s Stephen J. Nesbitt reports the deal is worth $13 million.
Williams, 30, was 3-5 with a 3.21 ERA in 30 games for the Mets last season, which included nine starts, and he had a 1.23 WHIP and an 8.4 K/9 in 89 2/3 innings.
He had been a starting pitcher his entire career until joining the Mets in mid-2021 as a swingman, and it is possible that he could be back in a Washington rotation that is unsettled outside of Patrick Corbin and Josiah Gray.
The Nationals have Stephen Strasburg under contract through 2026 but wonder if, not when, he’ll pitch again, so the rest of their rotation options as of now include Joan Adon (who went 1-12 as a rookie), top prospect Cade Cavalli (who finished 2022 injured), Paolo Espino (who made 19 starts last season), and 2022 trade addition Mackenzie Gore (who also finished 2022 injured).
