Sal fed up with Kodai Senga needing extra rest in between starts

Kodai Senga was originally expected to pitch Tuesday's series opener for the Mets, but Buck Showalter turned to Tylor Megill instead, allowing Senga to continue getting his extra rest before his next start after Wednesday.

It is a strategy that Sal is tired of seeing.

"I don't understand it with this guy," Sal said. "Why can't Kodai Senga pitch on normal rest?

"He was one of the big acquisitions that was supposed to be an upgrade in their rotation…and you're telling me he's got these type of limitations where he can't pitch every fifth day? What the hell was that about?"

Senga has been given extra rest for every start so far this season, as the Mets say they want him to ease into pitching away from Japan, where there was extra rest in between starts. But Senga replaced Chris Bassitt, who Sal says was a horse for New York last season, and as one of the team's prized free agent acquisitions this past offseason, Senga needs to be more available.

"He's already on five days rest. Why does he need a sixth day of rest?" Sal said. "I don't understand what they're doing here. How about this? Just get pitchers who can pitch every fifth day, because that's what it takes to win at the major league level."
