Sal recorded an emergency WFAN Daily on Thursday night, as reports emerged that the Mets had filled their DH spot with J.D. Martinez on a one-year deal.
It was a celebration for Sal, who was giddy at the thought of a proven veteran bat hitting behind Pete Alonso instead of settling for seeing what the team has in their youth.
“The New York Mets have finally got a DH! It has taken them long enough, but they finally have a DH!” Sal said.
“No more Jeff McNeil in the cleanup spot! They finally have a real DH now who can protect Pete Alonso! How does that sound? I’ll tell you how that sounds. To me, like a major league freaking lineup.”
Sal isn’t ready to crown the Mets as winners of the offseason, but at the very least, he feels a lot better about the team’s chances to secure a Wild Card spot with Martinez in the fold.
“This is a minimal risk…it makes the Mets better now,” Sal said. “Gives them a better chance to have a better season, and puts them in position to be a playoff team.”
