Last week, Sal said he wanted Yoshinobu Yamamoto more than any free agent ever despite the lack of familiarity with a pitcher who hasn't taken the mound in the major leagues.
Now, amid reports that the Yamamoto sweepstakes could drag on beyond the holidays, Sal has had an "epiphany."
"What the hell are we doing here, fawning over somebody, waiting on every breath, every step, every move he takes, somebody who hasn't thrown a single pitch in major League Baseball?" Sal said. "Yet we're fawning over this guy, acting like he's make or break, and we have to have him.
"Bullcrap. Enough of Yamamoto. Make a decision so we can all move on. I am over it. This idea that the Mets need him is nonsense. King Cohen doesn't need him. Guy hasn't thrown a pitch, we're talking $300 million? Now we might have to wait until next week for this guy to make a decision? Give me a break."
Sal still wants Yamamoto on the Mets, but he is no longer subscribed to the idea that the Mets offseason hinges on signing the Japanese starter. It's time for Cohen to put his best offer on the table, and simply say "take it or leave it."
"I am over it with Yamamoto…come on with this guy," Sal said.
"The Mets don't need Yamamoto! They are bigger than this guy…King Cohen and the New York Mets will be just fine without Yamamoto."
