With the Mets getting set to take on the Braves for a June series that is as big as it gets for the time of year, fans wanted Sal's help to change the tide in the NL East.
So, as requested, Sal made the opposite declaration that he did almost exactly a year ago, and now declared that the Braves have locked up the division.
"On the eve of the Mets going to Atlanta, a house of horrors, the scene of the crime last year, where my hopes and dreams were murdered by the Braves," Sal said. "I took that harder than the Mets last year, and I got more blame than the Mets last year. I didn't need a World Series last year, I just wanted to win that damn division!
"The NL East, with the Braves leading it right now by six games in the loss column…getting set to take on the Mets, where all signs point to Atlanta burying the Mets in the NL East, on this June 5, I will tell you that I believe, the NL East is ooooooover!"
Sal broke out into the rhythm of the chants from Braves fans during games at Truist Park, saying that their team has already won the NL East, and the race is OOOOOoooooOOOOverrr!
"The Mets have no shot of catching the Braves," Sal said. "None. They're done!
"Mets fans, you're welcome. Let's really put this thing to the test."
