Sal's spoiler alert: Don't expect anything from Gary Sanchez

Gary Sanchez will reportedly be activated for the Mets’ series opener against the Guardians on Friday, as the former Yankee All-Star will return to the big leagues after signing minor league deals with New York and San Francisco.

If anyone is expecting Sanchez to come up and look like his 2017 self, Sal says you will be disappointed.

“I get people are gonna make a big deal out of this because Gary Sanchez was a Yankee,” Sal said. “Guess what: he wasn’t any good as a Yankee, he wasn’t any good as a Twin, he wasn’t very good in the minors. I’m gonna ruin the suspense for you.

“Spoiler alert: he’s not gonna be very good as a Met.”

Sal doesn’t expect to see much from Sanchez, who is likely just a placeholder until Tomas Nido and Omar Narvaez are able to return, but if Sanchez sees sparing playing time, that means the team is making the right decisions.

“I don’t even know when you’re gonna see him in the lineup,” Sal said. “I want to see [Francisco] Alvarez catch every day. I want to see [Mark] Vientos DH every day, or at least the majority of days. You want to make Gary Sanchez the backup catcher instead of Michael Perez fine? I don’t love him defensively, but fine, he’s a backup catcher. You know what backup catchers are? Irrelevant.”
