Sal was forced to deal with jubilant Yankee fans on Thursday, as Juan Soto is headed to the Bronx, but he is still holding out hope that Steve Cohen will make it right by winning the race for Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
"The Mets fan needs to stay calm and remember to believe in Steve, because King Cohen will not disappoint the Mets fans," Sal said. "He will get Yamamoto, and we will have, as we should in this town, two powerhouses."
Sal hasn't wavered in his "I believe in Steve" rally cry, but if the Mets watch Yamamoto sign with the Yankees, that mantra will be muted.
"If he doesn't, I'm gonna remove the crown," Sal said. "I can't call him the king anymore. The crown will have to be removed and be put on someone else. It will probably be King Cashman.
"They needed Yamamoto anyway, now even more so. The Mets can't lose Yamamoto, especially to the Yankees."
