After watching Thursday’s heartbreak at the hands of the rival Braves, Sal is convinced that no franchise in professional sports drags their fanbase through the mud quite like the Mets.
“There isn’t a team that tortures their fanbase more than the New York Mets do,” Sal said. “It is impossible to torture your fanbase more than the New York Mets.”
With that in mind, Sal says he is refusing to let himself be hopeful that things will turn around, or that the Mets can capitalize on the expanded playoff field and get hot at the right time. That would only set the table for more torture, which Sal has experienced plenty of since declaring his Mets fandom.
“The Mets fans are gonna have hope, the Mets are gonna sell the hope of ‘We just gotta get into the postseason, look what the Phillies did last year.’ Well I’m not getting sucked in,” Sal said. “Not this time.
“It’s not April anymore, it’s not May anymore. It is now June, and they still look like a team that isn’t any good, and that’s after spending the most money in baseball.”
