Sal Licata dared to let BT give him the slightest bit of hope in the Mets, but Wednesday night's loss reminded him that no matter how much optimism the team generates, the other shoe will be waiting to drop.
"These Mets drive me nuts!" Sal said. "They miss out on another opportunity…I told you. All this talk about playoffs this, playoffs that. This team stinks!
"I'm tired of it. They're inconsistent…this is exactly why I don't believe.
Every time they start, they stop."
The Mets are still 7.5 games back of a playoff spot, and after a promising lopsided win over the Yankees on Tuesday, the offense went into hiding once again against the previously struggling Carlos Rodon. Sal isn't going to let BT's declaration that the Mets will go on a run and make the playoffs cloud his reality: Wednesday's dud after Tuesday's win was predictable because it has been the team's tendency all year.
"They pounded the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the first night, and then they disappoint," Sal said. "This is what they do."
