Sal believes that, come Aug. 1 when the trade deadline has come and gone, that the Mets will be irrelevant in 2023, and all focus will be on improving the team in 2024.
Still, the fan in him hopes that there will be a reason to be invested in the Mets the rest of the way, and he believes that can happen if one of three outcomes occur.
"Number one, they get back to .500," Sal said, starting with the most important. "Number two, they get back to .500. number three, they cut Drew Smith.
"Any one of those three things happen, and I'll start to take them seriously."
Sal has long been fed up with Vogelbach and Smith, as Smith holds a 4.65 ERA in the Mets lackluster bullpen, while Vogelbach holds a lowly .678 OPS as a DH.
Sal wants them both gone, and then he'll talk about the Mets potentially turning things around.
"I cannot stand watching them anymore," Sal said. "I'm tired of watching Drew Smith. And Daniel Vogelbach, he should be applauded for this, the only player in the history of Major League Baseball to be a major leaguer that doesn't use a glove or a bat!"
