Loogy: Steve Cohen is not a 'fraud,' trying to sell a 'crappy product'

Tommy Lugauer, filling in for Evan and Tiki, came out firing on Friday in defense of Steve Cohen, as many criticized the Mets owner for not closing the deal on Yoshinobu Yamamoto despite his league-high wealth.

“Steve Cohen is not a liar, a fraud or a con man,” Loogy said. “Steve Cohen is a salesman. The only problem is, he’s selling a crappy product.

“He flew to Japan. He had Yamamoto at his house, made him dinner, and did everything he could to get him…I don’t blame Steve Cohen at all.”

Loogy says Cohen is working from a deficit because of the product he inherited when he took over before the 2021 season. He has made strides to get the Mets to a better place, but it clearly still isn’t there yet, as big-name free agents like Yamamoto are signing with the Dodgers, a perennial 100-win campaign.

Loogy believes Cohen will get the Mets to that point, and he is doing all he can to accelerate the process. Still, he shouldn’t be ripped if he doesn’t get his guy in the meantime.

“What Steve Cohen and David Stearns need to do is turn the Mets into a consistent winner,” Loogy said. “Make that product not crappy, and you do that by building a farm system, building it the right way.

“Otherwise, Steve Cohen is gonna continue to be left at the altar.”
