After hearing Pete Alonso's comments on his uncertain Mets future, Tiki believes that the slugging first baseman will prioritize the biggest payday possible on the open market next winter.
"His preference would be to be here. Actually, that's a lie," Tiki said. "His preference is, 'Pay me b——s.'"
Wondering aloud, Tiki said Alonso's agent may have proposed a contract to the Mets that was so exorbitant, that David Stearns and company didn't even counter, and Alonso is staying mum until free agency.
"I think there's a contract number that Scott Boras has either thrown out there or it's kind of been floated, and I don't think it's even been responded to by the Mets," Tiki said. "I don't think they even considered responding to this. Pete knows this, but he doesn't want to undercut his team. He doesn't want to say anything about the negotiation…I actually commend him for pausing and saying nothing."
