The Mets looked mainly listless in their season-opening series against the Brewers, and Tiki is worried that it is not a blip on the radar.
It is more of a sign of what is to come.
“I think it’s an indication of what we’re going to witness,” Tiki said. “Without Kodai Senga, the ace you need for this Mets team, it just isn’t there. Luis Severino struggles, Megill struggled for a while, and the anemic bats. Francisco Lindor isn’t gonna bat .162 for a full season…but there just doesn’t seem to be the right kind of urgency for this Mets team.”
That lack of urgency, in Tiki’s eyes, is a direct result of the message the organization and David Stearns sent to the team with their relatively quiet offseason.
“This is a team that is just evaluating and trying to figure out who they are,” Tiki said. “Is it a surprise that it has translated onto the field? The answer is no. it always starts up top, with the expectation that the organization sets for a team, and it presents itself once the games start playing.”
