The Mets will return from the All-Star break seven games out of a playoff spot, barely putting a dent in their Wild Card deficit despite a recent six-game winning streak.
Some at WFAN have expressed confidence that New York still has a run coming, and the playoffs are absolutely within reach, but Tommy Lugauer doesn’t share that optimism.
“The Mets are not making the playoffs,” Loogy said during Monday’s bridge show. “I have some people in my life, they will be, you know, nameless here that think the Mets are gonna go on a run. A run to what, Walmart? A run to the supermarket? Are we out of eggs?
“They stink. They are horrible.”
Since Loogy was already fired up about the disappointment that is the 2023 Mets, he continued by targeting one of his biggest culprits for the team’s struggles, particularly in big spots, like in Sunday’s series finale against the Padres.
“Max Scherzer is so cooked, so finished,” Loogy said. “He is a loser. Not personally, but professionally, he's a loser. His Mets career has been an utter failure. I don't care what the record is, I don't care what his ERA has been with this team. In every single big spot, he has fallen flat on his face, and he acts like the smartest guy in the room, and after the game he's explaining you the minutia and the history of the slider, like he's, you know, Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.
“I don't care. Met fans don't care. You suck. We want you out of here. It's over.”
