Free agent pitcher Trevor Bauer is once again paying high compliments to the New York Mets.
The right-hander posted a video on his YouTube page Saturday night in which he ranked the top five fan bases by their pitches on social media for him to join their team, and the Mets came in at No. 2
“Man, what a great time to be a Mets fan,” Bauer said. “So much excitement among the fan base right now. New ownership, some free agent signings already…the owner’s on Twitter saying he’s gonna sign free agents … the fan base is super passionate right now, super excited, super energized.
“They’re trying to assemble a super team. Let’s get all the free agents…we’re gonna compete with the Yankees, spend more than the Yankees, beat the Yankees. You have that rivalry in New York between the Mets fans and Yankees fans, and the Mets fans feel like they can compete right now and be better than the Yankees. That’s been fun to watch.”
Bauer, 29, has certainly played his cards right when it comes to the Mets. He’s praised new owner Steve Cohen for his engagement with fans on Twitter and liked what team president Sandy Alderson had to say about Bauer being a personality who can thrive in New York.
Bauer shared some of his favorite photoshops from Mets fans, including a Thanos hand from “Avengers” that included Bauer with Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman and Noah Syndergaard as part of an elite starting rotation.
While he ranked the Mets fans’ pitches No. 2 and higher than the Yankees (who he had at No. 5), it was the Los Angeles Angels who took the No. 1 spot for him.
Bear in mind, this is solely based on the pitches he has received on social media, so it should probably not be read into too much. Whatever happens next, though, Bauer has seemed to succeed in endearing himself to the Mets fanbase.
