Boomer & Gio: What is going on with Mets 'group hump' celebration?

After the Mets finished off a fifth straight win and a sweep of the Guardians on Sunday night, their four infielders celebrated by huddling together behind the pitcher’s mound, draping their arms over each other’s shoulders, and breaking out a synchronized thrust into each other before breaking their circle.

Boomer and Gio had to spend some time during Monday’s show trying to figure out exactly what that was about.

“This is kind of the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen,” Boomer said. “I’m not really sure what they’re trying to get across.”

Boomer and Gio dubbed it “the group hump celebration,” which Gio noted goes beyond the postgame celebration.

“This is strange,” Gio said. “Also, it’s not only that, you get Pete Alonso in the dugout who humps the railing when something goes well for the team when he’s in the dugout. He gets up there and just starts pounding the railing.”

The celebration has caught on, and the Mets are back on track, so the “group hump” is likely here to stay.

“They’ve started to win now with the humping,” Gio said. “So it’s gonna be a thing the rest of the year.”
