Sports betting is a bizarre animal…as evidenced by the way lines have swung following the Nets' loss to Milwaukee in Sunday's Game 4.
As of Monday, Betonline.ag now has Brooklyn as an underdog in their series with Milwaukee, the Bucks now at -145 to win what is virtually a best-of-three with two out of those three at Barclays Center. The Nets, who opened as the favorites, are now +120.
However – in their overall odds for the Final 7, Brooklyn remains the favorites to win it all, the Nets' 12/5 odds just ahead of Utah's 13/4, and Brooklyn's 8/5 odds to win the East are still just ahead of Milwaukee's 17/10.
So, wait, the Nets aren't favored to get out of the second round, but still favored to win it all? Blame/pin it on Scary Hours, says one BetOnline rep.
"In an anomaly, the Brooklyn Nets are still the NBA title favorites despite now being an underdog to the Milwaukee Bucks in their second round series. We have only seen this happen in the NBA and never in any other sport," said Dave Mason, BetOnline Sportsbook's Brand Manager. "There is tremendous liability for the sportsbook already on the Nets and to push the odds higher for the Nets could create an even greater liability if the Nets get through this round and Harden and/or Irving return to health. So while the book believes the Bucks should be the favorite due to injuries to Harden and Kyrie, if the Nets get through this series the return to health of two of their stars would make them a prohibitive favorite."
Translation: if you're still bullish on the Nets, now might be the time to make some Brooklyn bread.
