Kyrie Irving and the Nets are at an impasse on a contract extension, and Boomer & Gio want different results for the situation's resolution.
For Gio…the longer Kyrie is a Net, the better it is for him as a Nets hater.
"If he left the Nets, and they retooled and Sean Marks was allowed to do what he wanted to do, they'd be better off," Gio said, "so I don't want him to leave the Nets, because I want to see the Nets fail. If he stays there, I think he'll be the reason that they fail!"
Boomer then had a laugh about how Nets superfan Jerry Recco does want to get rid of Kyrie finally…but the Booms wants Irving nowhere near MSG.
"So Jerry wants to get rid of Kyrie now? Well, welcome to my world Jerry, because we're on the same page," Boomer said, "but I don't want him on the Knicks! The last thing the Knicks need to do is bring in Kyrie…unless World Wide Wes wants him here."
Boomer then recounted a Tweet he got about someone imagining his reaction if Kyrie signed with the Knicks, and when Gio noted he can never figure out who in the Knicks' front office is actually in charge of bringing in players, The Booms noted how Kyrie & Coach Thibs is not exactly PB & J.
"There's no way that's a match made in heaven, and World Wide Wes was advocating for Thibs' firing around the All-Star break because his buddy Julius Randle was unhappy," Boomer said. "Julius Randle was brutal, I can't say it enough, and Kyrie Irving is brutal! Why would anyone give him a damn $240 million extension? Are you out of your mind?"
Gio proposed a sign-and-trade Irving/Randle deal across town, which Boomer sighed at and just said "forget it."
"I want the Knicks to win because the fan base is so passionate - even Sue Bird was going 'bing bong' at the Garden the other day against the Liberty," Boomer said. "I want the Knick fan in me to come out, but if they do another...this is out of Kyrie's camp, not the idiotic Knick camp. They've been so stupid for so long, this is the wrong move! He's not a Top 5 player - a Top 5 player makes your team better, not worse. Goodbye!"
And when Gio wondered if the impasse was because the Nets want Kyrie to prove himself, well, Boomer finished off his rant with aplomb.
"If Joe Tsai and Sean Marks have an ounce of pride, they would tell Kyrie he either plays on the last year of the deal, or opts out," Boomer said. "If they agree to a sign-and-trade and give him his money, after what he pulled here for the last three years? That's a disgrace."
