Monday's game between the Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves has been postponed in the wake of the shooting of Daunte Wright on Sunday. No rescheduled date has been announced.
The NBA made the announcement just before 4 p.m. ET, shortly after the NHL announced the postponement of the Wild-Blues game set for the XCel Energy Center in St. Paul. MLB had also previously postponed the Twins-Red Sox game set for Monday afternoon earlier in the day.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski had reported news of the potential postponement early in the day, which was later confirmed by Stadium's Shams Charania:
The NBA then announced the move "in light of the tragic events in the Minneapolis area last night," and said in the statement that "our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Daunte Wright during this difficult time."
There were reports that the NBA was going to try to reschedule the Nets-Wolves game for Tuesday afternoon - both teams are off, with the Nets headed to Philly on Wednesday while the Wolves are set to host Milwaukee Wednesday - and even potentially doing so with no fans in attendance.
The Twins and Wild, as well as the NBA and NHL, echoed those thoughts in their statements, extending sympathy to Daunte Wright's family and friends.
Wright’s death, coupled with the ongoing trial of former Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin accused of killing George Floyd, has sparked protests in the area.
Last year, all NBA playoff games were postponed on Aug. 26 after the Bucks boycotted their game after Jacob Blake was shot by police in Wisconsin.
