Sean Marks sees increasing presence of Nets fans at MSG: 'Never seen anything like our last Knicks game'

Nets general manager Sean Marks admits that when he first became a GM, it was obvious which team ran New York City.

"I'm not gonna sugarcoat it," Marks said during a Nets season ticket holder event on Tuesday night. "When I first went to MSG five years ago as a GM, that's a scary place. But you would almost play Where's Waldo, where the Brooklyn fans are? Because it's hard to get a seat there. You just couldn't find a Brooklyn fan over there. It was difficult to."

But what Marks saw at Madison Square Garden shortly before the All-Star break, when Brooklyn's backups staged a furious 28-point rally to stun the Knicks, was enough to inspire hope that things are shifting in the Big Apple.

"I have never seen anything like our last Knicks game," Marks said. "That was something I will remember, that was impressive. There were some fans by us standing up, yelling, screaming the entire time. There was no way we come back from down 28 without those fans there, so kudos to those fans. That was absolutely amazing."

Even Kevin Durant had a little fun on Twitter when acknowledging the presence of Nets fans at MSG that night, and Marks believes that can become a habit as Brooklyn prepares for another try at reaching the NBA Finals, though it would only be an extension of what he's already witnessed since arriving in Brooklyn.

"I used to come back here from a visiting team standpoint, and I would see Barclays and you would be impressed with the building, the lights, the music, and everything else," Marks said. "Then you come in here and start seeing the fabric of what Brooklyn is made up of…you're having our fanbase from New Jersey and New York, that's been impressive."
