Patrick Kane was the lone sour spot of the Rangers’ dominant 5-1 win over the Devils in game one, but two nights later, Kane looked like the player the Blueshirts had hoped they acquired before the trade deadline.
The future Hall of Famer looked like his vintage self in game two, helping seal another easy victory with a nifty backhanded goal that Kane tucked just beneath the crossbar after winning a battle for the loose puck.
For Kane, his big night helped reinforce why he greenlit a trade to New York, and left the only franchise he had known for his entire career.
“It's special,” Kane said. “It was obviously a tough decision leaving Chicago, but you come to New York for a situation like this.
“There’s gonna be moments in the playoffs where you’re called on to step up and try to produce.”
Kane’s moment came on Thursday night, and he delivered, helping the Rangers take a commanding 2-0 series lead back to Madison Square Garden, and reminding the Rangers that he still has plenty in the tank for another Cup run.
“He was outstanding tonight,” head coach Gerard Gallant said. “That was his best game for sure.”
