Sal opened Wednesday’s show with a scalding hot take that was certain to leave Yankee fans fuming.

Broadcasting like from MLB Network studios, Sal declared that, given the circumstances, the Mets wound up having a better offseason than the Yankees.

“I would go as far to say, relative to expectation, I think the Mets have had a better offseason than the Yankees,” Sal said. “The Mets weren’t expected to do anything. They at least got a big bat.

“If the Mets could have drawn up one bat to get, it would have been a real DH…they got him. The Yankees got Juan Soto, which would be their one guy, but they needed more. They’re trying to go all in. They didn’t do it.”

The Yankees went out and got the best bat available in Juan Soto, and signed a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter in Marcus Stroman. Still, top pitchers like Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, and Dylan Cease went elsewhere. In what was supposed to be an all-in offseason, Sal says the Yankees fell short, while the Mets, with little expectations, addressed their biggest need.

“Let me say it again…I said they had a better offseason than the Yankees,” Sal said. “Big deal, they got one player, they needed a lot more.
The Mets got one player too. J.D. Martinez does more to lengthen out the Mets lineup than Soto does for the Yankees!”
