Sports Edge: Transgender HS sports and an update from Parkland, FL

We have discussed the issue of transgender HS athletes in the past, but in the last month, two new developments have occurred.

One has to do with a new Gallup Poll that says that 62% of Americans feel that transgender athletes can compete based upon their sex when they were born – not when they transition. That's significant as states all over the country are beginning to confront this issue, whereas in other locales, the rights of transgender athletes are being contested in federal courts.

In fact, just a few weeks ago, in federal district court in CT, a judge dismissed a case brought by female track stars in HS who felt cheated due to the fact that boys who were transitioning to girls were allowed to compete in female track meets.

All in all, this issue only continues to get more and more complicated. Also, the first segment of today's show deals with a most unusual story stemming from the Stoneman Douglas HS shooting in Parkland, FL, in 2018, when 17 innocent individuals were killed by a deranged gun man. This is a gripping interview from one of the sports parents whose son confronted the gunman.
